Education is the manifestation of perfection already in man

Some division patterns are given below. You may practise these. If you find any irregularity, you may send suggestions. So, now enjoy the world of division.

v    Dividing a 2-digit number by 1 1/9

Select a 2-digit number.

Multiply by 9.

Move the decimal point one place to the left.

Example:

The 2-digit number chosen to divide by 1 1/9 is 24.

Multiply by 9: 9 × 24 = 180 + 36 = 216

Move the decimal point one place to the left: 21.6

So 24 divided by 1 1/9 = 21.6.

See the pattern?

The 2-digit number chosen to divide by 1 1/9 is 91.

Multiply by 9: 9 × 91 = 819

Move the decimal point one place to the left: 81.9

So 91 divided by 1 1/9 = 81.9.

v   Dividing a 2-digit number by 1 1/8

Select a 2-digit number.

Multiply by 8.

Divide the result by 9.

Example:

The 2-digit number chosen to divide by 1 1/8 is 42.

Multiply by 8: 8 × 42 = 320 + 16 = 336

Divide by 9: 336/9 = 37 1/3

So 42 divided by 1 1/8 = 37 1/3.

See the pattern?

The 2-digit number chosen to divide by 1 1/8 is 71.

Multiply by 8: 8 × 71 = 568

Divide by 9: 568/9 = 63 1/9

So 71 divided by 1 1/8 = 63 1/9.

v   Dividing a 2-digit number by 1 2/7

Multiply the number by 7.

Divide by 9.

Example:

If the 2-digit number chosen to divide by 1 2/7 is 32:

Multiply by 7: 7 × 32 = 210 + 14 = 224

Divide by 9: 224/9 = 24 8/9

So 32 / 1 2/7 = 24 8/9.

See the pattern?

If the number to be divided by 1 2/7 is 61:

Multiply by 7: 7 × 61 = 427

Divide by 9: 427/9 = 47 4/9

So 61 / 1 2/7 = 47 4/9.

Answers found by using a calculator will produce repeating decimals rounded by the calculator.

So 61 divided by 1 3/5 = 38 1/8.

v   Dividing a 2-digit number by 1 4/5

Select a 2-digit number.

Multiply it by 5.

Divide by 9.

Example:

The number chosen to divide by 1 4/5 is 32.

Multiply by 5: 5 × 32 = 150 + 10 = 160

Divide by 9: 160/9 = 17 7/9

So 32 divided by 1 4/5 = 17 7/9.

See the pattern?

If the number chosen to divide by 1 4/5 is 61:

Multiply by 5: 5 × 61 = 305

Divide by 9: 305/9 = 33 8/9
